conference aims
The conference provides a unique opportunity for researchers from across
the College of Health Sciences to meet and rub shoulders and so, hopefully,
demystify the "other" disciplines. There is time to communicate with one
another at leisure, participate in activities and competitions while making
important connections that can be drawn upon when the opportunity for
collaboration arises. The principal aim is to establish important linkages
between research students and eminent senior researchers that will nurture
the careers of aspiring researchers and support the development of collaborative
research across the College of Health Sciences in the immediate future,
and in years to come.
The conference hopes to:
- stimulate ways of thinking that are collegiate, multi-disciplinary
and problem-based as a platform for on-going collaborative research
- foster networking and encourage aspiring researchers to learn from,
and pair with, established and successful mentors
- raise awareness of the range of opportunities for collaboration across
the College and establish infrastructure to provide on-going support
to the development of collaborative research in the College of Health
Sciences
- discuss responses to local, national and global changes in the nature
of research in the early 21st century
what will the conference look like?
- Presentations of work in progress (mini-posters)
- Workshops that deliver desired outcomes based on the above aims such
as the creation of new linkages and collaborations (workshops)
- The acquisition of knowledge of current global, national and local
research issues
- Training in new research techniques
- Grant writing
- Career skills
- Contests, competitions and games that entertain, educate and build
friendships
- Plenary and workshop sessions
- Conference dinner with entertainment
